About solarwinds
SolarWinds Inc. is a software company based in the United States that helps organizations manage their networks, systems, and IT infrastructure. Its headquarters is located in Austin, Texas. It has sales and product development offices around the United States and in a number of other countries. From May 2009 through the end of 2015 and again from October 2018, the company was publicly traded. It has also acquired a number of other businesses including Pingdom, Papertrail, and Loggly which continue to operate under their original names. As of December 2020, it had around 300,000 customers including nearly all Fortune 500 corporations and a number of federal agencies. Donald Yonce and his brother David Yonce co-founded SolarWinds in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1999. In March 1998, SolarWinds introduced its first two products: Trace Route and Ping Sweep, and in November 2001, it introduced its first web-based network performance monitoring program. The company relocated its headquarters to Austin, Texas in 2006, where approximately 300 of the company's 450 workers worked as of 2011. The organization was profitable from its founding via its IPO in 2009.
SolarWinds provides potential clients with free downloaded software before selling them more advanced software via trial versions. SolarWinds purchased numerous companies after receiving finance in 2007 including Neon Software and ipMonitor Corp. and built a European sales office in Ireland. SolarWinds was named number 10 on Forbes magazine's list of fastest-growing IT businesses in 2011 after acquiring many startups. In January 2011, it acquired Hyper9 Inc, an Austin-based virtualization management firm. SolarWinds completed the $35 million acquisition of Idaho-based network security firm TriGeo in July. TriGeo's Post Falls offices have been added to the SolarWinds network which currently includes satellite offices in Dallas, Salt Lake City, and Tulsa. SolarWinds bought EminentWare, a patch management software supplier, and RhinoSoft adding the latter's FTP Voyager product to its product suite in 2012.
