Certifications offer a great way to level up your career. Wireless Security Certifications enable you to maintain networking security. You'll be able to legitimize your stability and skills. It leads to maintaining your career in network security. You need to choose the right certification fit as per your skills and trends in the current time frame for enjoying these benefits.

Wireless Networking Security

Wireless Network Security is the method of adoption of planning, executing, and ensuring security on a wireless computer chain network. Wireless network security shields a wireless network from illegal and malicious access attempts.

Typically, wireless network security is conveyed through wireless devices. These devices are usually wireless routers/switches. These devices encrypt and secure all wireless communication by default. Even if the wireless network security is compromised, the hacker will not be able to inspect the content of the traffic/packet in transit. Moreover, wireless interference detection and prevention systems also enable the protection of a wireless network. It is done by alerting the wireless network manager in case of a security breach.

Why Wireless Security Certification?

The market for wireless skills is growing. It is because companies in a developing economy look forward to expanding and catching up on postponed IT projects. This report was shown by a recent study by Robert Half Technology, a division of the global staffing and placement firm. Hence, Most network groups get this expertise internally, as IT pros get the job.

IT network job descriptions frequently summon wireless skills among the requirements. There also has been a penetration of training courses in wireless and certification programs. They are aimed at wireless administration and security. These are adding fame - and pay increases - to a range of wireless network positions.

Wireless technologies are widespread now. They are distributed everywhere from local area networking with 802.11ad to the widespread conception and adoption of fourth-generation (4G) wireless wide-area networking technologies, such as LTE (with 5G now also starting to make its debut). As per the reports of SimplyHired, entry-level wireless networking professionals can expect to make roughly $67,000. There were also highs reported at nearly $154,000.

Earning Wireless Network Security Certifications is one of the best ways to prove expertise in network security. Many organizations provide networking certifications that focus on network security knowledge. Their focus is also on the general overview of networking expertise.

If you are starting a career in wireless networking or building on existing experience and skills, a certification adds a great value. They are rich with technical knowledge and show possible employers that you have the verified skills to get the job done.

In the revised edition, currently, there are no prerequisites for the new CCNA exam. Though considering this fact applying candidates should know about IP addressing and network fundamentals. They should maintain at least one year of direct experience implementing and administering Cisco solutions.

Candidates should also pass a single exam to earn the CCNA credential. This considers excluding any exams required for prerequisite certifications. The new CCNA exam is consolidated and succeeds all current CCNA exams. This is regardless of concentration area.

According to reports from Cisco, the new CCNA exam focuses on a broader range of fundamental skills. This includes automation and programmability and security fundamentals. IP services, IP connectivity, network access, and network fundamentals are also needed. This new CCNA certification is valid for three years. After this credential holders must undergo recertification. They can recertify by passing an approved exam. Another way is by earning 30 Continuing Education Credits (CECs).

Professionals who earn the CCNA Wireless will receive the new CCNA credential and a training badge.

2. CCNP Enterprise: Cisco Certified Network Professional Enterprise

Along with introducing a new version of the CCNA Wireless certification, Cisco rolled out a new CCNP credential. It is the CCNP Enterprise formulated on February 24, 2020. To earn this CCNP Enterprise certification two exams are required. The first exam is a core exam (focused on enterprise technologies). The second exam is an enterprise concentration exam. There are no prerequisites for the CCNP Enterprise credential.

Though ideal candidates should have at least three to five years of experience implementing enterprise network solutions. The CCNP Enterprise Certification is valid for three years. After this, the candidate has to go under recertification. For recertification certification holders must pass a professional concentration exam and earn 40 CECs. Another way is to earn 80 CECs.

If you have been working to build the  CCNP Wireless credential, your hard work will pay off well.  After the completion of all your work, you'll receive credit toward the new CCNP Enterprise credential. To view exactly how your current work translates to the new program you can use Cisco's CCNP Wireless Migration Tool

You need to pass the CCNP Enterprise Core exam to earn the CCNP Enterprise certification. It is estimated that the average annual pay for a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) in the United States is $107,293 per year. This is the report as of Feb 17, 2021.

3. CompTIA: Network+

CompTIA is a well-acknowledged certification vendor of vendor-neutral industry credentials. The CompTIA Network+ credential accompanies the IT Fundamentals, A+ and Security + credentials. They are part of CompTIA's four "core" credentials. The Network+ certification acts as a prerequisite to some CompTIA credentials. Those credentials are:

  • Security+
  • Cybersecurity Analyst+ (CySA+) (which was earlier CSA+)
  • Linux+
  • PenTest+.

The Network+ certification is an intermediate-level credential. It targets professionals in junior-level roles. This includes network administrators, system or field engineers, help desk and support technicians, and network analysts. Network+ confirms a candidate's skill and technical expertise.

These skills relate to network configuration, design, and implementation. Others include virtualization support, troubleshooting, security standards, network device configuration, and more.

To earn this credential, a single exam (N10-007) is required. This exam was launched in March 2018. The exam topics dig into several domains. This includes new hardware technologies, cloud computing, technical service models, virtualization, and security concepts.

The certification credential is valid for three years. After this, the candidate must undergo recertification. There are several paths for recertification. Candidates can review the current exam renewal requirements on CompTIA's renewal web page.

Professionals who are on the recertification process should explore a CertMaster CE course. This course allows candidates with valid credentials to recertify. It takes four to six hours for a nominal fee of $189.

4. CWNA: Certified Wireless Network Administrator

The Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) credential is from the Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP).  This certification has been running around for more than a decade. It still represents a great general-purpose IT certification for specific candidates. They are the ones who install, configure, and maintain wireless networks in the workplace.

CWNP explains this credential as a foundational-level career certification for networkers. It is called so because it acts as a gateway to more senior credentials. Those certifications include the Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP) and Certified Wireless Analysis Professional (CWAP). It is also a prerequisite for the Certified Wireless Design Professional (CWDP).

The  CWNA-107  is a current exam for the CWNA. It is available at Pearson VUE testing centers. It includes topics like:

Wireless Security Certification
